EMC buys VMware for $635m

Storage vendor EMC completed 2003 with its third major acquisition of the year, buying virtual computing software company VMware for $635m (£360m).

Last July EMC bought storage software company Legato and in September acquired document management company Documentum. The last move brings its total purchases to $3.6bn.
